Thank you. Just trying to make sense out of a senseless situation.
I have spent much of my life living for the moment. Every hour riding my bikes and spending time on mountain trails as opposed to a cubicle or under a thumb has been worth it.
I have no retirement to speak of, but no regrets, either. I was able to enjoy life when I was younger, healthier and stronger, and do things I can't do now. I guess I'm a quality over quantity person.
This is a wonderful article in every sense, Geoffrey. As Margaret said, "well written and full of wisdom." Since my brain is fried today (from going to fast) I haven to rely on on other readers' praise. Write on!
A beautiful article, well-written and full of wisdom. Since retiring (at age 70) and with a 20-year-old car (the best car I have ever owned), I have found that life is more enjoyable when you take the time to appreciate the things that are really important.
I always dislike days when they are consumed by running from one thing to the next. It feels like something was stolen from me! Running constantly is reality for people now with multiple jobs to survive. The days of one income supporting a family of four are long gone, thanks to Reaganomics (in reality adoption of the Chicago School theory that relies on breaking unions and privatizing everything they can get their hands on). The Democrats have gone right along with it, and it's why there is virtually no middle class anymore.
Geoff: I am relaxing in Mexico where my son and his girlfriend now live. I now retired for the second time in October. Although Mexico (Juriquilla-outside of Queretaro) is well developed the pace is slower and family is everything. We are enjoying our chill time, where our son works part-time, his novia as well, and they live with a balance and affordable standard of living. Have a margherita or three for me! I'll check out Ryan's latest. I subscribed long ago, but haven't received alerts to new work. Mexican people are warm and friendly, more attuned to living life at a sensible pace. Have a great time!
what a wonderful, spot-on video - please remit that message to your son. I'll like and contribute when Google becomes my friend again,, but I know many will enjoy this and hope I can post it on Facebook.
I began watching the video. Russell's point that all Americans are becoming subject to the same kind of repressions native people have suffered is on point. Dividing us by race, religion and sexual orientation is a distraction game. The real game is class warfare. An aside, I'm generally leery of InfoWars as a source, being Alex Jones' creation. The man has promoted a lot of spurious information, hatred and bogus conspiracy theories. https://www.cnn.com/interactive/2022/06/politics/alex-jones-infowars-fringe-to-frontline/
I don't know who Alex Jones is and as a Lakota who spent 3 months at Standing Rock hve to say I'm a bit surprised, although your reply shows only a lack of knowledge and exposure to the truth. The real game is genocide - we've never had enough resources or desire to want war. I help out at Pine Ridge, where the poverty hurts (created by colonizers) and we're just now getting our food and heat set up. Look up the both Wounded Knees, the Mankato 15 where prisoners were hung by the neck for public display and sport. You can be leery of anything you want but after watching this interview with our of our Standing Rocks medics - your feelings might change. Or not. There are any number of videos and first hand written accounts that make the term "class warfare" laughable.
Alex Jones is the man being sued by the victims of the Sandy Hook grade school massacre for denying it ever took place. Infowars is a vile far right disinformation outlet, and Jones became rich from spewing hate and lies. He's an utterly terrible human being. I am well aware of the horrors Native Americans have suffered. I read Bury My Heart at Wounded Knee as a teen. I know about the Trail of Tears. I know the damage never goes away. Such trauma is literally physically passed on. This country was built on war, slavery and genocide. 50% of Africans died on the boats before they got to the shores of America. I defended the tribes being victimized for the mine at Thacker Pass strongly in this article.
In the first ten minutes of the video you shared, one of the points Russell was making is that the system is coming for white people, too. He was pointing out the laws have been and are being changed to suppress ALL of our rights, including whites who thought they were immune. That's what I meant by class warfare. The enemies of Native Americans and people of color, are also enemies of destroyed the white middle class. This country is flirting with fascism. Yet, there is a percentage of whites who continue to fall for the race card and increasingly back Christian Nationalism, which is pretty much its own form of fascism. Genocidal colonial policies continue to be enacted all over the world as corporations twist going green into bogus carbon offsets as a tool to steal more native people's resources. It saddens and angers me, and all of this while the viability of an inhabitable Earth is deeply threatened.
I have no problem with Russell Means. I have a big problem with Alex Jones and InfoWars, and I am sorry I upset you. The crimes against natives world over can never be repaid sufficiently.
after cleaning the mace out of our warriors eyes and seeing bones protruing from being shot by "rubber bullets" we stand in peace prayer and not ready to say "enough"although that would be welcome
I read that comment a couple of months ago, about when Max was climbing the equipment at Thacker Pass. Perhaps it opened some people's eyes. I feel your understanding and knowledge of indigenous history is a bit basic, but we all start somewhere. But I am puzzled, Geoffrey, as my video to you was about Russell Means, not Alex Jones and I don't think Jones is mentioned at all in what I ws trying to share with you. And "knowing about" is different than "I understand." Lithium is of course a clear, but not as present, a danger than fuel oil in our waters and one does have to prioritize one's efforts. We have a vote to try to bring the EIS for Standing Rock to a new vote - anyone who wants to truly help, or watch a ZOOM meeting can see Lakota People's Law Project on Facebook - or mine. It is very difficult for me to read this text here; as I've said, I' blind in one eye and the demands on my time are heavy I still don't understand why a very good video about Russell Means irked you into even bringing who and what Alex Jones is. I find that staying on topic is easier to communicate with others. No comment on Jordan from the Young Turks, with Mator and that whole episode but please just stay on the topic I bring to the table. Good night.
i'm informed my comment didn't go through and again, I don't know whic one. More direct communication wouldn't waste as much time. An an aside from me, I'm leery of most information as spurious but search for the truth. And I don't know how Alex Jones got into this whole conversation
you did not make me angry - no one has that power and don't cede my power to feed and house the poor, hungry and unhoused of any ilk I do that 18 hours a day and put any what you call anger to good use. Have a nice evening (there's a second Bury my Heart at Wounded Knee and Leonard Peltier has been in prion in solitary for 50 years. We need to assume to most effect attitude to gain his release for a few years until he dies.
I know who that is, and read the article when it was published a year ago. Until American citizens change their feelings about the glories of guns there will be no change. I am not angry, and more than my relatives and allies angry. We see t the benefit of acting for change and using anger to move forward.
I don't know which video you're referring to - I sent two. Yes, I'm aware of how far micro plastics have entered our world We are doing our best against them, and to educate others about them. We won't stop
Geoffrey, I was glad to see you use the words yu're a survivor of a brain tumor. I know when I, or those close to me, have nor survived, it was simply time or them to return to our Mother, but I didn't want to let go. But I digress....
One thing that drives me even nuttier than I am is the hub-bub of life now (especially shopping at any time, but Black Friday deserves its name.) I remember lazy days and words like "stroll" and "mosey on over" and speaking volumes with no words, just postures of peace. The sane thoughts that our fellow critters live that way, slowly staring with wonder at this beautiful world without hurrying through it, Whole summers when I was a teenager and bathed in the sun reading my favorite books, and no one told me to "hurry up". My parents were wise in that regard. My mother indulged in a lot o "oomphalaskepsis" (not sure of spelling) but it means just sitting and staring at your belley-button and feeling the wonder of your body taking in and appreciating the world . These days, I won't even enter a store, especially a "big box store" unless there's an emergency and we'ere out of gauze. (I live rurally, with my unhoused friends who've unlearned the onus of hurrying. During an emergency like a fire, I'll hurry or to catch a baby bird whose just fallen out of the next. The parent birds know they only need to hurry to get them food and safety. And I try to help. I think , too, that's why I'm a cat person. Cats relax when they have the opportunity whereas dogs jump and hop and whine (mind you, I do like dogs.) But before I digress again, I thank you for this piece (peace) and also have to agree about the wisdom of trees, under which I hope to be buried when it's my time to go, but I'm no hurry for that. :-)
I think you and I may be clones of each other in hat we value, but I'll be quiet now and watch the geese glide south at their own pace. This is a delightful break to read - thank you. I'm not sure I understand stacking and restacking but I really enjoyed this.
Yes, a survivor and confident the tumor won't come back. Getting to the right surgeon and hospital was the worst part, but in spite of insurance incompetence, I found the right place. I too, dislike shopping, and I do very little outside basic needs. The older I get, the less I want. I NEVER shopped on Black Friday, even when the family was still doing gift giving. Now we just get together, hang out and eat. A few people drink a bit too much, but it's laid back. Can't stand big box stores, I remember once going into a Walmart "super" center and being overwhelmed by the smell of outgassing rubber and plastic!
We do seem to have some things in common. I was a huge reader in my teens, eight hours a day was not unusual, getting engrossed in a good book is a joy. Now my reading is less pleasurable, constantly reading for information and facts to inform my writing, but when a piece comes together well, it's well worth the effort.
Thank you for reading. I'm happy you enjoyed the article.
No problem, and restacking is easy. Just use the circle/arrow buttons at the top of the article. You can also drag over a passage of text you like to restack with a quote. A contextual box will come up with options.
I still don't "get it" but that'd my problem. I'm only familiar with posting and sharing on Facebook; that way the post is directed to the person you're "talking" to but also easily viewed by others. It was an hour long commentary by Russell Means, and not "on topic" here.
restacking insulates you from reality without a chance for easonable back and forth, or spreading truth. I feel sick right now knowing what my relatives and I went through, and are still going through, andyoucall it class warfare. There were no classes before the colonizers created them It's all been toprotect YOUR waater- mini waconi,
Thank you. Just trying to make sense out of a senseless situation.

Time is our most valuable asset, hands down.

100+ years of motocracy. reality and film. forever driving!
i totally agree with you about the slow down. limitless speed is plain insane.
Alex got into the conversation because Russell's talk was hosted on InfoWars.
