Good article. It made me think of the Stanley Milgram shock experiments in the 1960s. https://www.verywellmind.com/the-milgram-obedience-experiment-2795243

Conformity is a quality that has helped humans dominate the planet, but it often works against us, particularly now because it has led to the destruction of the planet we depend on. We need to make a huge leap behaviorally.

Stan, thank you! I miss you and my friends over there. Apparently, it's okay to be a vaccine conspiracy theorist, a climate change denier, and a Trump conspirator, but you had better not say anything nasty about George Santos! I am here @gdeihl@spore.social and here now, @gdeihl@projectmushroom.social, trying to build a new community and need to explore the tools here on Substack to encourage conversations. Wonderful to hear from you, Stan.

The single most effective thing is organized protests, that's why I brought up the civil rights movement. Slowing the economy by buying only what is essential and boycotting are important tools as well. Educating deniers as you can is important, but getting into the streets I believe is essential. I strongly believe we're heading to unrest either way. Better now with an organized agenda than later as a result of climate driven economic and social breakdown, IMO.

Geoff: Again, thank you for elucidating the state of and challenge that climate change presents to each one of us. I have a hybrid vehicle, recycle, choose green alternatives, donate to Nature Conservancy and other non-profits....yet I feel helpless towards making a difference in the cause. What is the single most effective thing you recommend (I vote) that might allow individuals to make headway in moving forward to a more sustainable future?
