Hi Robin. I know I am often a difficult read. I don't set out to be that, but I can only write about the world as it is. I was lucky, or maybe unlucky, to be able to see all sides of things, even when I was a little kid. I read books by many smart people. I have great gratitude for those writers. I always saw through the system. They are winning, and Jessica is probably correct. It's frustrating because we common folk could bring the whole thing crashing down if we were correctly informed, organized and willing to sacrifice. Good sweatshirt! We live in a culture dominated by entertainment, not love of learning, which makes it doubly poignant. We would rather watch alien invasions featuring humans running around in rubber suits, then study the ample "alien" life on this planet. We have exceeded the Earth's balanced processes and capacity with fossil fuels, releasing too much energy into a closed system. This has resulted in excess heat and toxicity, even as it enabled our population to explode to over 8 billion. We're at the top of the J curve now, with little place to go, but down, abruptly, and brutally I'm afraid. Hopefully, the survivors will take the coming harsh lessons to heart and find a more meaningful, kind way of living on the planet. We must be its caretakers, not exploiters.
Quite a brilliant article, but too sad and too infuriating to read it word for word. It's becoming a waste of words and life force to continue to fight these monsters. They are winning. Sadly, Jessica is right. We are doomed.

I have a grandson who is a freshman in college, majoring in chemistry and biology. For Christmas, I gave him a sweatshirt that says, " At the start of every disaster movie there's a scientist being ignored." I feel like we are now living in a disaster movie; my generation won't be around to see how it turns out, but our children and grandchildren will.
Pretty good Geoffrey, a dry wry sense of humour there. Loved the Unicorn. Only downside was the ref to Assad. I think you're definitely off kilter there and should have another look at that history from the beginning to the end. Arron Mate and Sy Hersh might help.
