An ICE detention was logged this morning at Coal Creek Parkway and Newcastle Way, directly under a Newcastle Flock camera that has never been independently audited for federal access.
Local news, my neck of the woods. 15 miles from downtown Seattle, I go through that intersection on my way home from work. Good thing I don't have an unlucky license plate. The view from the large hill you see is breathtaking. As I write this there will be a sunset to see there for sure soon. There is a parkway a half mile down the road that connects to a larger park on Cougar Mountain. Bears and yes Cougars sometimes come down into the neighborhoods. Lots of Deer too. And this is one of the places where Raccoons are evolving rapidly. I think even the possums are getting smart enough to avoid traffic. As you can see, our weeds are very large.

Just an interesting side note. Back in the early 2000's, (before 2006) a person spoke at me, intermittently, for many years. I never saw him tho. He did not predict, he told me much of what he was going to do. He called himself a spy and CEO of Tyssen Krupp, before he sold the company to India. He said he was a computer technology, bioweapons expert. He also called himself Satan, and an avegning Prussian soldier. He said he was going to turn the world into a nazi, Capialist, fascist Metropolis (like in the German movie) but unlike the movie, all the sons were going to be just like their blind evil, greedy fathers.

He called Wallstreet the true capital of America. He also said that if the global heat didn't kill us, he'd use nuclear weapons. That's depressing.
This person sounds seriously creepy. Most psychopaths wear a mask to hide their nature and intentions, but this person apparently dropped all pretense with you.
Horribly, much of what he said is turning out to be correct. Blind capitalist greed is indeed doing us in. The mindset of the people who have done all in their power to burn fossil fuels, knowing the outcome since Exxon's own scientists studied and predicted it, speaks of mental illness.

The judge was kind enough to waive any record against my driver's license and I paid a fine since I had driven for 15+ years without a speeding ticket. Recently, I read this: "Flock Safety Automated License Plate Reader (ALPR) cameras are utilized by local law enforcement. The Cleveland Heights city council passed guardrail legislation to restrict data retention to 30 days and ban sharing data for civil immigration enforcement, though local activist groups continue pushing to completely terminate the contract over mass surveillance concerns."
This is the good news; the very bad news is that the Chief of Police in local municipalities has total control to set SOPs and ethical codes. Thus, it takes protesters and enough resistance to law enforcement action/ploicy to have City Council members act, as in the cited case. It clearly comes down to the people in power and how they choose to use technology. I know this is obvious, but it's a grave concern because most people turn a blind eye, don't want to get involved, or are apathetic constituents.
Right now, I am focused on getting out the vote every week so that Cleveland area voters exercise their rights to vote in the November election for Senator. (Reminder: Husted was appointed to replace JD Vance.) Ohio can leverage/contribute to swing... in the US Senate.
The public safety is a Trojan horse. One of my readers in Washington state shared articles with me on the misuse and profiling these cameras are enabling in the Seattle area. Well worth checking out.

Mere survival will be a challenge for the tatters of the middle class, and those in the hottest regions are already experiencing elevated wet-bulb temperature deaths. Places like Phoenix are only as safe as the power grid holding up, and I've already addressed the impending disasters at Lake Powell and Lake Mead.
We are terrifically good at selling everything, and there's no basis to say we're beyond a campaign selling us on ourselves. And "enormous" doesn't even seem to me to be big enough of a tent. It's us being skewed to them having so much that's a fundamental reversal we need, and getting some play from them for the good guys seems like a doable cause to pursue.

An epiphany is not coming, and what was needed 50 years ago was the beginning of profound societal value change. This is not something accomplished in an ad campaign that by necessity would need to reach a worldwide audience with enormous cultural differences.
FDR was the best I'm aware of in galvanizing people into unified action, but the situations, the Great Depression and WWII, were profoundly different from what we face now.
In FDR's time, pumping up the capitalist system along with humane back-to-work programs was viable even if the blind spot was consumption, which is now destroying us.
In any case, we don't even have a voice approaching the trust that FDR inspired, nor do we have access to his solution—growth—as the world burns and floods. The collapse we are experiencing now is dictated by the limits of the planet being exceeded, not puny human policy. And we're not even attempting sane policy.

interesting, so you know about overshoot and such but also think that there is a billionaire who would want to be benevolent and spend money educating people on "real" issues. i have never seen anyone hold these two ideas at once, so i assumed incorrectly about where you were. to me, you cannot be a billionaire without being a certain type of person, and this certain type of person does not have any interest whatsoever in the wellbeing of others.
We are most definitely “flocked.”
